Hey guys!! I'm back!! I took a couple of weeks to travel and to rest, something we all need and I consider necessary for a well balanced life.
Coming back from #amandastravels, I have realized that I still owe you other Travel Guides but I can't wait any longer I had to share all about my latest and one of my favorite travels - Cartagena, Colombia.
But, before going into why you SHOULD visit Cartagena, I want to touch aaa some what non talked about subject, let's face it, it's not something that is sexy to talk about but I believe it's necessary to deal with it.
That is the Poop conversation, yes you heard right! In prettier words, our gut health.
Think about it, what is the one thing that gets in the way from enjoying your trip fully??
Your digestion!! That lack of times you go to the restroom. Very soon in your trip you feel bloated and plain uncomfortable because you can't go to the restroom. Right?
So let me go right in, on a Foolproof Way to Get Your Digestion Going.
#1 Hydration, hydration, hydration! Water and even eating fruit will help you out, water is essential because it acts as a transportation system, circulating nutrients throughout the body and moving out waste products.
#2 Check Your Gut, Specially the first couple of days as your body is adjusting, don't attack the bread and processed foods. Ease into it, depending on how your digestion is going, incorporate your green juice in the morning and veggies through out the day.
From 1-2 times a day. The fiber veggies have, act as a great aid for digestion.
#3 Be Patient. Without getting into details, be patient when going to the restroom.
As crazy as it may sound, because we are not accustom it, practicing breathing exercising while in the restroom, will sooth your nervous system, which will help you achiever your ultimate goal.
(A place where you want to take a picture en every door)
Having a happy healthy digestion made my trip to Cartagena even more enjoyable and a one to remember.
This was my first trip to Cartagena, I had heard lots of good things from many people, and I came only to find out that it was even more beautiful than what I expected.
I went with a group of girlfriends for a bachelorette trip, this was a bachelorette trip more touristy oriented: tour guides, cooking and salsa classes. And of course the must Boat Trip every bachelorette must have! with not going to lie lots of tropical drinks!
I can say that I really got the sense of what Cartagena is all about, with that here are the 5 reasons to visit Cartagena, Colombia:
#1 There is so much life. Cartagena it's a city like no other, full of music, color and vibrancy. You can spend your days walking between the streets of La Cuidad Amurallada, which I recommend staying at an airbnb. within La Cuidad Amurallada.
During the night there are so many restaurants you have to try list of some of my favorites places below, finish your night with a mixology drink or salsa dancing the night away at the La Habana Cafe Club.
Is it safe? YES! I never felt a sense of being unsafe, we did take taxis during the night and always no matter where you are, be aware of your sorroundings.
#2 Food That You Can't Stop Eating. Being a huge foodie, I have certain standards, I must say. Well, let me tell you everything I ate in every single restaurant was absolutely delicious!
The typical dish in Cartagena is the arepas, and to drink the Limonada de Coco (lemonade with coconut). You will also find many restaurants that offer Paella, that is a must you have to try.
What we did, and here is a tip to avoid over eating and for you to try as many dishes as possible is to share, everything goes in the middle and try out as many things as possible.
List of Restaurants I recommend:
Juan Del Mar
1621 Restaurant at Hotel Santa Clara
Alquimico for appetizers and drinks
Vitrola a Cartagena Classic, more of an older crowd, but a must!
Demente (famous for its pizzas)
Clubs & Dancing
La Habana Club
Hotel Santa Sofia (rooftoop)
(Girls just wanna have fun!! A great place for a Bachelor or Bachelorette Trip)
#3 So Much History to Learn. If you are a History nerd just like me, then this is another reason why you will love Cartagena. Cartagena is one of the oldest cities in Central America, full of history, and pirate tales!
Taking a tour outside and inside the Cuidad Amurullada it's another must! You will get to see an old monestary, a Fort, and get to know all the history within the Old City.
(this was us the whole time, being silly without a care in the world!)
#4 Beautiful Beaches. As you all know, I am a real life mermaid I love anything that has to do with being in the water specially in the ocean!
But I'm still picky with beaches, Cartagena passed the test!
One day we went to a very loungy, Beach Club called Blue Apple Beach Club it had great food, delicious drinks, and a beautiful pool.
Located in Islas (islands) Rosario. So you need to take a speed boat, but no worries the Club takes care of the transportation, with an extra fee.
Another day, we took a private boat and we went Island hopping, I didn't love the public beaches as much, but the water is beautiful and you choose how much time you spend in each island. I wouldn't recommend for you to miss this experience!
#5 You Will Meet The Sweetest People. I can honestly say, that almost every single person was very sweet, happy and always wanting to help a lost tourist!
The service at almost every restaurant was excellent, which for me personally, can make or break an experience at a restaurant!
You will find yourself very pampered by the Colombians, and who doesn't like to be pampered.
(I felt very at home in Cartagena, had a hard time leaving!)
All of these reasons and many more are why I recommend traveling to Cartagena! I have more much information that I can share so let me know if you have any questions and I would love to help.
(my Cartagena Crew, a trip to remember!)
(all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us)
Will you be adding Cartagena to your Travel List??! Share this post with the person or group of friends who you want to travel to this magical city with.
Lots of love,
